Product portfolio includes pulsed and continuous wave fibre lasers, and laser drivers. Technology solutions also include packaging, testing and characterization of components and subsystems that are incorporated into fibre lasers.
Unilumen Photonics was incubated by IIT-Madras in 2012 with the aim to be a leading provider of fibre laser systems for the material marking and cutting industries, for use in bio-engineering and for the indigenous development of defensive technologies.
Unilumen Photonics is an Indian company leading the delivery of indigenous fibre laser technologies. By partnering with key research institutions across India, we aim to develop solutions applicable in a host of industries that process materials, automotive, defense and medical. We anticipate a strong collaboration under the National Photonics Initiative with academic institutes such as the IITs, and CSIR and DAE institutes such as CGCRI, CEERI and RRCAT.

Fiber lasers has a great economic advantage in the global market for industrial lasers. In 2011, the laser market was about $7.7 billion wherein the fiber laser had a 15% share and is growing at about 38% currently. The whole industrial laser market is also expected to grow to a mark of $ 9.4 billion by the end of 2015.
Fiber lasers are gaining greater demand and potential in the market; we at Unilumen Photonics can support metal markings, PCB manufacturers, bio-engineering equipment manufacturers, biomedical instrumentation manufacturers, defense production agencies, research and academic institutions. The optoelectronic components and subsystems are also available as stand alone systems for use in educational and research laboratories.

Meet The Team
Pradeep ThangappanManaging Director
Pradeep is also heading a Thermal Power Boiler manufacturing unit since 2008. He has major experience in the field of welding, fabrication and thermal distortion analysis.
Anil has been a faculty member at IIT-Madras in the Dept. of Electrical Engineering since 2002. He has prior experience working at Western Digital and takes an active interest in developing products for the Indian market.
Balaji has also been a faculty member at IIT Madras in the Department of Electrical Engineering since 2004. Prior to that, he worked as a Senior Development Scientist at Corning Incorporated. He has over 20 years experience in fiber-based devices and sub-systems, specifically related to high power fiber lasers and amplifiers.
